Jankel & Cosworth announce technical partnership

Jankel Armouring Ltd and Cosworth Ltd are pleased to announce a technical partnership regarding the development of Jankel's next generation of blast attenuating seating. The partnership has been conceived to combine Jankel's extensive knowledge of vehicle survivability and market leading BLASTech seating product with Cosworth's advanced data and control electronics.

"Jankel are very excited to partner with Cosworth, utilising both companies' advanced expertise in order to expand BLASTech Seating's leading capabilities and strengthen its global market leading position. Intelligent technology offers an improved understanding and data capture in occupant survivability as well as effectively reducing the solider burden" said Daniel Crosby, Business Development Director for Jankel Armouring.

Despite fast paced developments in the vehicle survivability industry there is a widely recognised lack of understanding of both in-theatre blast events and the consequential injuries, such as spinal and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Such injuries are difficult to predict, understand and counter.

A key feature of intelligent seating bridges this understanding gap by collecting and correlating key data during a blast event. The output is exceptionally valuable for fast response injury detection, with data being made immediately available to support operational military tactics or provide medics / first-on-scene with instant information of likelihood and severity of injury to support medical prognosis. The information is also useful for long term survivability understanding, providing information on the conditions with which the injuries occur and quantify the effects to determine what can be done to prevent them in the future.

"Cosworth has been pioneering new vehicle blast logging and analysis systems in Europe and North America for the past 18 months, so the link with Jankel and their BlastTech Seating is a natural progression for us. We're excited to be working with Jankel and look forward to making a contribution to their innovative military equipment that will no doubt save lives on the front line in years to come." said Andrew Manahan, General Manager Aerospace and Defence for Cosworth.

The Intelligent Blast Seat will be mounted onto a test rig for demonstrations that illustrate the advanced data capture capability at the DSEi exhibition on the Jankel S3-550 stand, alongside the latest collection of market leading BLASTech Seats.
